Counting Our Blessings

Thursday was a pretty good day!

Last Thursday, we:

  • Delivered food to 56 people confined to their homes. The reduction of SNAP benefits has hit seniors hard—this is the aspect of our work that has grown the fastest over the past six months. A shout out to the Seigle Foundation and Senior Commission of the Elgin Township for funding that makes this possible!

  • Met with representatives from Sherman Hospital and the Elgin Housing Authority to discuss how we can work together to advance our various work (food, access to health care, support of seniors).

  • Received ‘end of the fiscal year’ gifts from lots of people, giving us $20 to $100 to $10,000, money that will enable us to do the work that you expect us to do. The $10,000 gift is especially nice, since the employer will match the gift, turning it from $10,000 to $20,000!

  • Confirmed Heritage Crystal Clean as our Chip in for Hunger golf outing on August 28.

  • Hosted the morning Rotarians who volunteered at our evening distribution of food, part of their commitment to service in the community.

  • Picked up over 400 cookies from the Crumbl Cookie store in South Elgin (and I didn’t eat any of them!).

  • Had a brand new volunteer replace a critically important long-term volunteer who called in sick. She had trained with her earlier in the week so that we didn’t miss a step.

  • Reviewed our almost complete 6-month statistics, noting the 25% increase in the number of people served at the pantry.

Teamwork

Life is good when we all pitch in together to make our community a better place. Thank you for making this possible!
